Disneyland Lightning Lane: What You Can (and Can’t) Book in Advance

At Disneyland, buying a Lightning Lane pass and selecting a ride are two different steps. Some passes can be purchased before your trip, but that does not always mean you can reserve an attraction in advance.

Here is the simplest way to understand the three options:

Multi Pass: Buy it before your trip or after entering a park. Ride selections begin only after park entry.
Single Pass: Buy it after entering a park and receive the next available arrival window.
Premier Pass: Buy it up to seven days ahead. No arrival-time reservation is required.

How the Three Disneyland Lightning Lane Passes Work

Lightning Lane Multi Pass

Multi Pass includes a selection of attractions at Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure. It does not include the two attractions currently sold through Single Pass.

After entering a park, choose a participating attraction in the Disneyland app. The app gives you the next available arrival window rather than a full list of times to choose from.

Multi Pass starts at $34 per ticket per day, but prices and availability vary by date. It also includes unlimited downloads of eligible Disney PhotoPass digital photos from that park day. Each participating attraction may be used once per day with the pass.

Lightning Lane Single Pass

Single Pass is a separate purchase for select high-demand attractions that are not included in Multi Pass.

As of July 2026, the eligible attractions are:

Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance at Disneyland Park
Radiator Springs Racers at Disney California Adventure

After entering a park, check the Disneyland app for the current price and next available arrival window. You may buy one Single Pass for each eligible attraction per day, subject to availability.

You can use Multi Pass and Single Pass on the same day, but buying Multi Pass does not include either Single Pass attraction.

Lightning Lane Premier Pass

Premier Pass can be purchased through the Disneyland app up to seven days before your visit, beginning at 7:00 a.m. Pacific Time. Quantities are limited.

Instead of booking return times, you receive one-time access to each available Multi Pass and Single Pass attraction. You can enter an included Lightning Lane when you are ready to ride.

With Park Hopper admission, Premier Pass can be used in both Disneyland parks that day. With a one-park ticket, it applies only to the park you visit.

Guests traveling with a Walt Disney Travel Company package may receive their park tickets two days before arrival. Their Premier Pass purchase window may therefore begin later.

When Can You Make Your First Multi Pass Selection?

Your first Multi Pass selection becomes available after you enter Disneyland Park or Disney California Adventure that day.

Open the Disneyland app, review the participating attractions and choose the next available arrival window. Your selection and the time when you can choose again should appear under My Plans.

Starting soon after entry usually provides more options. On busy days, popular return times may move later or become unavailable as demand increases.

Before confirming, make sure the arrival window works with dining reservations, shows or plans in the other park. You can modify a selection in the app, but another useful time is not guaranteed.

How Does the Two-Hour Rule Work?

Multi Pass selections are made one at a time. You can make another selection after you redeem your current one or after two hours have passed since you made it—whichever happens first.

That rule can allow you to hold more than one future arrival window.

For example, imagine a family enters Disneyland Park at 8:00 a.m. and makes its first selection at 8:05.

If the Return Time Is Soon

8:05 a.m.: The family selects Matterhorn Bobsleds for 9:15 a.m.
9:15 a.m.: They scan into the Lightning Lane.
They may then make another eligible Multi Pass selection without waiting until 10:05 a.m.

If the Return Time Is Later

8:05 a.m.: The family selects an attraction with a 12:30 p.m. return time.
10:05 a.m.: Two hours have passed, so they may choose another available attraction.
The original 12:30 p.m. selection remains in their plans.

The Disneyland app should show when you are eligible to select again. Actual return times and attraction availability vary throughout the day.

💡 Practical tip: Set a phone reminder for the next selection time shown in the app. It is easy to miss while your group is walking, eating or waiting for another attraction.

How Does Park Hopper Affect Lightning Lane?

Park Hopper guests must first enter the park named in their reservation. After that entry, there is no required waiting period before crossing to the other park.

If your group has valid Park Hopper admission, you can use Multi Pass or Premier Pass at eligible attractions in both parks that day. The park entrances face each other across the esplanade and are approximately a five-minute walk apart.

When booking a Multi Pass attraction in the other park, allow enough time to finish your current plans and walk to the entrance. Access to a second park remains subject to capacity.

Park Hopper does not include a Lightning Lane pass. The ticket option and the three Lightning Lane products are separate purchases.

Disneyland and Walt Disney World use the same pass names, but their advance-booking rules are different.

This is the key difference: Walt Disney World lets guests choose Multi Pass experiences before arriving. Disneyland does not. Advice written for Disney World should not be used to plan Disneyland Lightning Lane reservations.

Staying at a Disneyland Resort Hotel?

Registered Disneyland Resort hotel guests currently receive one entry to one eligible Multi Pass attraction at either park during their stay. The benefit may be used at an available time on one day.

This is separate from purchasing Multi Pass. It does not include Single Pass attractions, PhotoPass downloads or the other features of a full Multi Pass purchase.

The benefit becomes available at check-in, or shortly after 7:00 a.m. on arrival day for guests who complete online check-in in advance. Link the hotel reservation to the correct MyDisney account so it can appear in the app.

Is Multi Pass Worth Buying?

Multi Pass is more likely to be useful when several attractions your family wants already have long standby waits, or when waiting in line is especially difficult for your group.

Before purchasing, check which priority rides are included:

If your main goal is only Rise of the Resistance or Radiator Springs Racers, a separate Single Pass may fit better.
If you plan to ride several Multi Pass attractions and use PhotoPass, Multi Pass may provide more value.
If standby waits are reasonable and your schedule is flexible, you may decide that no paid pass is necessary.

Buying Multi Pass with your ticket gives you more certainty that you will have it. Waiting until park entry lets you review that day’s conditions, but sales can stop and useful return windows may become limited.

Bring a Portable Charger

Expect to check your phone repeatedly for Lightning Lane return times, wait times, maps and mobile food orders. Screen use, location services and frequent app checks can drain the battery faster than expected—sometimes well before the evening shows begin. A charged portable battery can keep one phone available for the group’s tickets and park plans through the end of the day.

If you are flying, pack the power bank in your carry-on rather than checked baggage and confirm your airline’s current battery rules before departure.
